The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a paid parental leave bill for federal workers on 6.19.08. Currently, federal employees have no paid parental family leave.
NOW is the time to speak UP!! Urge your Representative to vote YES on this parental leave bill. It's simple to send a quick e-mail, or - better yet - ring her up! You can get your Representative's phone number here (and if you don't know who your Representative is, no worries, just enter your zip code here to find out). All you have to say is your name, the city where you live, and that you urge a yes vote on H.R. 5781, the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act. Let her know how important this issue is to American families, and of course add your personal story if it's a good fit.
About the Bill. The Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act would provide federal workers up to four weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, and will be a good first step towards paid paternal leave for all Americans. Read a non-partisan bill summary here.

I just hung up with Rep. Blumenauer's office, took all of 5 seconds. Very satisfying!
